Studio policies
The short, plain-language version.
These policies govern lessons with Music Mammoth Studio. They exist so everyone knows what to expect - enrolling in lessons means agreeing to them. Last updated September 2026.
Attendance
Your lesson time is reserved exclusively for you each week for the length of the enrollment period. Tuition holds that slot whether or not the lesson is attended.
Please arrive a few minutes early. Lessons begin and end at the scheduled time; a late arrival shortens the lesson rather than extending into the next student's slot.
Cancellations and no-shows
Cancellations with at least 24 hours' notice may be made up within the same calendar month, typically on a Friday. One make-up per month is guaranteed; additional ones depend on the schedule.
Cancellations within 24 hours can be rescheduled but are not guaranteed. Lessons that are missed without notice are billed in full and are not eligible for a make-up.
Exceptions include certain circumstances, such as illness and genuine emergencies. Life happens, and I am more than happy to accommodate - please just communicate with me.
Instructor cancellations
If I have to cancel or reschedule, I will do my absolute best to notify you with plenty of time. We can then discuss a different time to make up for that session. I hold myself responsible for improper cancellations or tardiness on my end; you, the student, deserve an honest teacher who stands on his word.
Tuition and payment
Tuition is billed monthly in advance and is due each month on the day you subscribe. Rates are flat per month regardless of whether a month contains four or five lesson weeks - five-week months include a bonus lesson at no extra charge. Payments more than seven days late may result in the lesson slot being released.
Withdrawal
Two weeks' written notice ends an enrollment. Tuition paid for lessons that occurred is not refundable, but any lessons paid for that will not occur can be refunded.
I encourage students to talk to me about their withdrawal. You don't have to do this, but it helps me understand the situation and, depending on the circumstances, help you.
Discontinuing lessons
The studio reserves the right to discontinue lessons with any client at its discretion. This is rare, and it is always preceded by a direct conversation where possible.
Reasons may include repeated missed or unpaid lessons, a persistent mismatch between the student's goals and what this studio can offer, or any behavior toward the instructor or the studio space that is unsafe or disrespectful.
If lessons are discontinued by the studio, any prepaid tuition for lessons not yet given is refunded in full, and I'm glad to refer you to another local instructor.
Studio conduct
Please don't attend a lesson while ill - we'll move online or reschedule. Parents and guardians of students under 12 are welcome to stay for the lesson. Instruments and equipment in the studio are shared; accidental damage happens and is never charged for.
Questions about any of this are welcome before you enroll. Data handling is covered separately in the Privacy Policy.
Your first lesson is on me!
